Interesting Facts and References
Take a look at the spray painting in Alcatraz, especially in Cell Block D. All those spray paintings that are names, are the name of people who helped make the game. For instance. In Cell Block D the most visible spray painting says "Cluff". This is the last name of one of the VR room designers.
During the scene where Tex and Chelsee are looking for a parking spot, look on top of the Faberge billboard. It is kind of hard to make out but the red is actually the "Intel Inside" logo.
The number 1024 appears at least 3 times in the game. You can find it on one of the keys Sylvia gets from the police, it is on one of Gideon's disks (the one you find in the hallway) and it is also on the laser torch you get at Alcatraz. The number 1024 (whether this be coincidence or not) is equal to a nice "round" binary number (the number system with only 1s and 0s): 1000000000. I have a feeling this number was used for that very reason (either that or because its a power of two, but the reason 1024 in binary is "round" is because 1024 is a power of two, but I won't get into that).

Right: Notice the name Bash Dagot of the Coroner. Bash Dagot was a character in Mean Streets, the first Tex game and what Overseer is a remake of.
Did you know that when you ask AID about Tex the address he lives at is 813 Fourth St. When you ask AID about Sonny he also lives at 813 Fourth St. This is because Sonny just moved out. Remember how Sylvia said she found a scrap of paper on it with the address to Tex's Office. Carl didn't know Tex, but he did know Sonny, so Sonny used to live in Tex's apartment building. In J. Saint Gideon's study, Mean Streets is playing on the computer. Also in his game room you can play part of Mean Streets. |
Sonny Fletcher's place is filled with past Tex Murphy game stuff. During the first visit when Sonny picks up the Bishop notice what's below it. That's right. A Martian Memorandum Box. During the second visit you will see a Mean Streets poster on the wall.
Take a look at the mug on the table beside the coffee pot in Law and Order. It's a Links LS mug. This is the same with the one in the guard station at Alcatraz. Speaking of Links LS there is also an article about Links 2037 in Boyd's Life (examine it after you pick it up). Left: Inside several drawers in Carl's house are Under a Killing Moon and Links LS instruction booklets. Look at the picture to the left of Knott's bed in his cabin. I'll let you figure out how this is a reference (it shouldn't be too hard). |
Discontinuities, Bugs and Other Errors
When you examine the Sleeping Pills take a look at the date on them: January 13, 2043 but the game takes place in 2037.
Notice this. The date on Bosworth Clark's computer reads November 7, 2037 so that means that it has to be November or December, 2037 in Overseer, but the "new" issue of Boyd's Life is dated January, 2037. That means its almost a year old! Doesn't sound very new to me. I guess they meant January, 2038.
In Overseer the time reversal seems to have reversed making a reversed time reversal. Make any sense to you? The reason I say this is because at the beginning Chelsee tells Tex that he should get more normal hours but then says they have an 8 o'clock reservation at the Golden Pagoda. It makes sense if she's talking about 8 PM, that's awfully early but in The Pandora Directive we learn that there has been a time reversal because the O-Zone layer has been completely destroyed, because unless they live in the Arctic most places won't be very dark at 8 am and when the sun's out is when they're supposed to be sleeping meaning they're up awfully late.
Another date one. The letter from Wanda to Carl is dated February, 2036. When you examine it Tex comments that it's almost a year old. But we know that it's at least November or December 2037 making it almost 2 years old! More information that I've gathered to back up the date is Carl's transaction reports, all dated October, 2037 and the envelope in the Fresno office the first time you go, with the date, November, 2037 on it.
Having trouble getting passed the droids in Alcatraz and are on Gamer mode? Well you can actually by-pass them by hitting Alt-D. This is strange because you are not meant to by-pass anything on Gamer mode.

Right: Well I didn't know where to put this one so here it is. If you don't see anything turn up the brightness on your monitor. It's the safe going right through the book case. To do this, after you unlock the safe at the Fresno Office, close it and move the book case back, get into a spot where you can see behind the bookcase and open up the safe again.
While Tex is talking to Sylvia Linsky for the first time, she dumps his lollipops into the top of the Parcheesi box. But after the Sylvia scene the lollipops are in the ashtray and there is no Parcheesi box. Also Tex's vid-phone is not on his desk during the movie scene. Thank to Mats Fredriksson for this information. Take a look at Tex's vid-phone. It's the same one as he has in The Pandora Directive, but he doesn't have a vid-phone in Under a Killing Moon. |
Left: There is an envelope that appears in John Klaus' desk for a split second as you open it, but you can not get it. Maybe it was originally going to be something that they cut out of the game. Thanks to Mats Fredriksson for this discontinuity (It's actually more like an odd occurrence than a discontinuity, but I needed somewhere to put it).
If you don't get Tex's PI rulebook, he still has it during movie scenes like the one at Robert Knott's cabin and at the ending scene on the way to Sylvia's. At the Big Surf Lodge, the closet's blue in VR mode, but during the movie scene where Slade's talking on the phone, it's red. You can stand up as high as you want in the bathtub at the Lodge, but when Slade comes in, he still won't notice you. |
While you are hidden behind the crates near the guard room at Alcatraz you can get up as high as you'd like (even if you think the guard would see you). From here you can even get Gideon's Hairbrush and look at the passcard reader. You'll also notice that there's the maintenance droid awaiting some work on the floor.
Left and Right: The Saline Solution is labeled wrong. As you see it says "N184" but the autoclave says "N216" which is the correct number
During the final scene when Tex and Chelsee are coming out of the restaurant, you can see one of the microphones (or another piece of equipment) in the top left corner. It is much easier to see on the DVD version, but if you pay close enough attention you should notice a little glare and a black thing move into the shot in the CD version as well. |
In the scene where Tex asks Clements if she caught Slade (visit her after you tip her off on Slade) you can clearly see a microphone in the shot in the top right corner. There's a screenshot to the left.
If you look at the mail at the Fresno Office (the first time you visit) in VR mode, you'll notice the date on it is February 2037, but when you examine it it says November 2037, which has to be the correct date since Tex said mail is still being delivered to this address, if it were delivered in February (since the game takes place in November) that wouldn't prove much. Means Streets took place in 2033 and Overseer in 2037 but they're the same cases. |
Right: The picture above the fish tank in Knott's office is gray, but when Tex tries to get the box from the fish tank with his bare hands and gets bit by the piranhas, its red. Thanks to Chris Marsland for these two mistakes.
After you open the cabinet in Gideon's Study you will see a blue card. Get the blue card then open the travel panel and click on Gideon's Study then press "Go". Take a look in the cabinet. The card is back! You can get it again but after the first time it won't show up on your inventory menu. |
Hidden Jokes
Left: This is what I call "Catman". You can find this weird animal on the top floor of Val Davis' Lab.
Right: This list to the left shows a list of Access Software employees and the implant they are carrying! Oh and Carl Linsky is on there too. At Delores Lightbody's house, you can see a poster which says "The Dame was Bloated" an obvious pun of "The Dame was Loaded" referring to Delores' large girth. |
