Getting Under a Killing Moon to run on Windows ME
This is actually pretty easy (though it took me two months to discover it). Just follow these instructions exactly and you should get UAKM to run perfectly fine on Windows ME, I did.
1. Open the MS-DOS Prompt (Start\Program Files\Accessories).
2. You should be at a prompt that says "C:\Windows"
Now for a mini DOS lesson, since I'd assume many of you never have, or forget how to use DOS. If you type "cd.." at the prompt you will go up one directory. For instance, if you were in the directory "C:\Windows" it will take you to "C:\". If you want to get to a directory that is accessible (in) the current directory, type "cd " then the name of the directory. For instance here's how you'd get to "C:\Moon" (default UAKM directory) from "C:\Windows":
a) Type: "cd.."
b) Type: "cd moon"
You will now be in C:\Moon.
3. Go to the UAKM directory (default: C:\moon)
4. Insert UAKM disc one into your CD ROM drive.
5. At the prompt "C:\moon" (if that's your UAKM directory), type the following: "Copy D:\Tex197.exe Tex3.exe" ensure spelling and spacing is exactly the same. When it asks you if you want to overwrite the file select YES.
6. Exit the MS-DOS prompt (type "exit" then hit enter) and open Windows Explorer (Start\Programs\Accessories). Go to the UAKM directory and double click on the file "Tex3.exe". Enjoy!
If you still cannot get UAKM to run complete the following steps:
7. Go to your UAKM directory in Windows Explorer or My Computer.
8. Right Click on Tex3.exe and select "Properties"
9. Select the tab titled "Program" and check the box next to "Prevent MS-DOS-based programs from detecting Windows"
10. Save the settings by selecting "OK" and run the program.
